Why Was My Miner Shipped to Warranty Instead of Being Repaired In House?

If your miner was sent out for warranty repair rather than fixed at our facility, you may be wondering why, especially since Simple Mining handles most repairs in house. This article explains the reasoning behind that decision.

Our standard approach to repairs

Simple Mining prefers and will repair miners ourselves whenever possible. Shipping a unit out means extra downtime and added logistics, so our team handles as much of the repair work in house as we can. This keeps turnaround times faster and gets your miner back online sooner in most cases.

Why hashboard issues are the exception

When a miner has a hashboard issue and is still in warranty coverage, we always ship it to warranty rather than repairing it ourselves. This is because working on the hashboard directly would void the manufacturer's warranty coverage. Bitmain will not honor a replacement or repair if the board shows signs that someone outside of their authorized process has worked on it.

Hashboard replacements can be costly. If we were to attempt an in house repair and it voided the warranty, you would be responsible for the full cost of a new hashboard if the board were unrepairable. Sending the unit to warranty protects you from that cost and ensures the repair is backed by Bitmain directly.

What this means for you

If your miner is currently at a warranty center, it is because a hashboard issue or more complex issue was identified, not because of a policy against in house repairs. This decision is made specifically to preserve your warranty coverage and avoid unnecessary expense on your end.

You will also not incur any hosting charges while your miner is out for warranty repair. We bill for exact uptime, so any time the unit is offline for this process you are not being billed.

Our team works with Bitmain on a daily basis to keep warranty units moving and get every miner back to us as quickly as possible. This kind of manufacturer warranty process is standard across the Bitcoin mining industry. Any hosting provider working with Bitmain or another ASIC manufacturer follows a similar path for hashboard issues, since it is the manufacturers, not the hosting facilities, who set the terms for what voids coverage.
